Colorado River, Grand Canyon
Kevin Pappas captured these rich colors on the Colorado River in July 2000. Pappas, who lives in Princeton Junction, N.J., spent eight days rafting on the river through the Grand Canyon.
Pappas took the photo on a 35-millimeter camera and later had it scanned.
"[The photo] is one of my favorites," he told TODAY.com. "The colors that day were spectacular, and the air in the canyon was very clear.?
"We had just finished coming through some big sets of rapids when we turned this corner and I knew I had to take this shot."
He called the experience a "trip of a lifetime."
